The Hitchcock inspired
Disturbia took first place at the US box office, raking in an estimated $23 million, far ahead of expectations. It reportedly cost $20 million to make, and was predicted to gross only $12 million. The film, which stars
Shia LaBeouf and
Carrie-Anne Moss, asks the question what if your neighbour is a secret serial killer? Borrowing heavily from Alfred Hitchcock's
Rear Window, the PG-13 rated film is set for release in Britain this June. Meanwhile, things went from bad to worse for
Grindhouse, which dropped to tenth place, grossing only $4.2 million. The film is reportedly set to be remarketed and split in two, with both films already being announced for separate DVD releases. Grindhouse: Planet Terror and Grindhouse: Death Proof are likely to be shown separately when they hit UK theatres in June.
